Aranese (Aranés)
Aranese is a variant of the Gascon dialect of Occitan spoken in the Val
d’Aran in the northeast of Spain. About 90% of the inhabitants of the Val
d’Aran can understand Aranese, and about 65% can speak it. Aranese has
co-official status with Catalan and Spanish, and has been taught in schools
since 1984.
